Running from God

Running from God

It’s easy to think of Jonah as the prime example of a person who runs from God. He did so in the most literal way possible, going in the exact opposite direction from where God wanted him to go. It wasn’t as if he hadn’t understood God. He simply didn’t want to do what God said. (It’s interesting, isn’t it, that he wanted God’s blessings for himself, but not for others.) What about us? Do we begrudge others the kindness and mercy of God? Do we delay in having that conversation or forgiving others? What is God saying to you?

But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord. – Jonah 1:3

Prayer: God, turn me around when I start running from You. Lead me do what You’ve told me to do with faith and humility. In Jesus’ name, amen.
