As we place ourselves at the foot of the cross—laying down everything of value, all of our sin and guilt, and all of our concerns at the feet of Jesus—life comes into focus. Humbling ourselves in light of His self-sacrificial love, we begin to understand ourselves as men and women who have been forgiven. We realize the cost and depth of God’s mercy and grace. Cross-birthed humility is the starting place for Jesus-like servanthood.
You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.—Colossians 2:13-14 (NLT)
Prayer: Jesus, I come to Your cross today, and lay my life down. I look up, and realize that from Your love flows forgiveness, life, renewed hope, and energy. Humbled by God’s mercy and grace, I rise to serve in Your name. Amen.
