What do you look for in a leader? Jesus’ contemporaries had their own ideas of what God’s Anointed One would look like. They envisioned a hero who would restore them to their previous glory as a nation. Instead, Jesus came in humility, calling people to repent, to be restored spiritually, and to live for God, not themselves. As He lived the life He was calling them to live, the disciples turned from their mistaken concept of leadership and embraced His lifestyle of servant leadership.
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.—Mark 10:45
Prayer: Jesus, turn my heart from visions of my own success, change my mind from worldly perspectives of leadership. Fix my heart on You. Let Your heart and mind shape my life and leadership today. Let me live the life of a servant leader, like You. In Your name I pray, amen.
