Joseph’s life is a good example of what it looks like to move from edging God out to exalting God only. He had God-given visions of influence, but his initial understanding centered on his being exalted. His misunderstanding led to prideful self-boasting and resulted in rejection and suffering. Ultimately, as Joseph gained humility and God-confidence, his God-given visions were fulfilled in ways that exalted God and blessed others. Where are you boasting about yourself instead of exalting God? What will you do to live for God and others, not yourself, today?
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips. —Proverbs 27:1-2
Prayer: God, let me be more concerned about exalting You than getting attention and praise for myself. Give me a heart that is more concerned for others than for my own reputation. Let me bring life, hope, and help to others today, in Jesus’ name, amen.
