How do we respond when people resist direction and insist on going their own way? No matter our leadership role, we all will face times when others do not agree with the direction we are moving. In these difficult situations, we are responsible to keep a close watch on our leadership motivations and actions. Jesus calls us to speak the truth in love, even when others do not respond as we desire.
Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.—Mark 10:21-22
Prayer: Jesus, when we are facing difficult leadership challenges, would you guard our hearts, heads, hands, and habits? Help us to communicate clearly, honestly, and compassionately. Give us wisdom to respond to those who are unwilling to be led. We ask in Your name, amen.
