Several parts of the world are unstable as a result of wars, crime rates, conflicts and the like; but the most insecure place is the heart that is not yielded to God, such that has edged God out of its daily operations. Today’s world is filled with pressures and comparisons, making it all too easy to feel like you’re not measuring up. You might find yourself perturbed about money, feeling like you don’t fit in, wondering if you’ll ever find love, struggling with your body type when you look in the mirror, and thinking if your job will serve you better.
One thing you might not realize is that you have a secret weapon: the truth of God’s word. Let’s take a look at some daily concerns that many face today.
- I am broke, but my friends are spending money at will.
Let’s face it – money can be a major source of stress. But did you know that our worth doesn’t come from our bank accounts? Instead, it comes from knowing that God’s got our backs, no matter what the situation is (Philippians 4:19). The key is to trust that He will meet all your needs regardless. So, take a deep breath and trust Him. Whenever you stop trusting Him, anxiety takes over, which can lead to a lot of comparisons and difficulties.
- I feel that I am being delayed.
This is a common feeling, as many people feel like they’re falling behind. But the question is, who set the timing, you or God? With what standard are you measuring your life, that of your friends, or God’s divine timing? You’re called to something greater – a purpose that goes beyond earthly success. You may be feeling stuck, but stay with the Holy Spirit, because He is making something out of you that will astonish the world (Matthew 6:33). You don’t have to feel delayed when you are not the one driving your life, unless you took over the driving seat, in which case, you need to let go and let God.
- I wish I had a better appearance
We all have that small voice in our heads telling us how much better we would look if we had a different body structure. This insecurity has led a lot of people to carry out plastic surgeries that are ruining their lives. Know this: you are fearfully and wonderfully made in His image (Psalm 139:14). Remind yourself of this every time that small voice starts speaking. Embrace your uniqueness – inside and out – and celebrate the masterpiece that God created you to be.
You can break free from the chains of insecurity and embrace the confidence that comes from knowing who you are in Christ. Remember that you were bought at a high price. You can live with joy and freedom, knowing that you are loved and accepted just as you are.
Finally, have you explored God’s love letter to you as scripted in His word? “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11. Rest on God’s good plan towards you and see yourself get better.
