Do you want to know what the future holds? Me too. Letting God lead us through uncharted territory, sounds like a good idea. But it’s hard to let Him – to lift us above our own will.
I am reminded of the poster “Footprints.” when there was only one pair of footprints, the Lord was carrying His child through the rough terrain. When we follow behind Jesus, we have an easier time keeping up with where He leads. It helps me to remember He has already gone before us. He is the God of the past, present and future.
When we trust Him, even though we don’t know the way, all we have to do is plant our feet where He has already stepped. When we don’t understand where He is leading or how He wants us to react, it helps to consider, “I wonder what Jesus would do about this situation?”
Charles Sheldon wrote the book What Would Jesus Do? The phrase “WWJD” appeared on Christian T-shirts, bracelets, everywhere – to remind us to imitate Jesus in all we do.
WWJD? What would Jesus do if He was cut off by someone in traffic? What would Jesus do if someone was rude to Him? How would He act if He were here today? What would Jesus do if He was misunderstood, hurt or abused?
What would Jesus do in the midst of today’s confusing and overwhelming news headlines?
1 Peter 2:21 says, “To this you were called because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in His steps.”
Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, thank you for asking us to follow you. You are a trustworthy leader; you will never ask us to follow you to a place that is not for our benefit or your glory. Help us to trust you and follow you wherever you lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
