Listening was one of the leadership skills that Jesus consistently used. He listened to what people said, and He asked questions to clarify and draw out their thinking. He discovered their existing presuppositions and perceived needs. As leaders, listening to the people around us will help us meet people at their level of understanding. It will help us better influence their thinking, behavior, and development. Listen carefully to those you lead!
After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.—Luke 2:46-47
Prayer: Jesus, help me to listen. I want to make it a priority to truly hear and understand what others think. I want to meet them where they are and help them take the next step in their growth. Give me ears to hear, helpful questions to ask, and insight and understanding into how I can serve others. I ask in Your name, amen.
