Moses’ early attempts to lead from a worldly perspective led to exile. Years later, when God called him through the burning bush experience, memories of past failure still haunted him and threatened to undermine his confidence in God. What failures keep you from responding to God’s call?
When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.”
“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.—Exodus 3:4-6
Prayer: Lord, I hear You call my name. Don’t let pride, fear or past failure keep me from responding to You. Give me humility and confidence to lead like Jesus, in whose name I pray, Amen.
