Jesus’ ability to respond to changing circumstances was grounded in His relationship with His Father. He knew who He was and whose He was. He knew His mission and His vision of the future. He knew His values, and He kept focused on them through ongoing communication with the Father. What habits keep your identity, mission, and values firmly in place?
Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.— Matthew 14:22-23
Prayer: Jesus, after a long day of teaching and miracles, You needed time alone to pray. Thank You for Your example of cultivating a life of prayer in the midst of ministry. If You, the Son of God, needed to pray, then I do, too, to keep grounded and flexible in my leadership. Here my prayer now as I come in Your name, Amen.
