Listen to the silence. Feel the heartbreak. Jesus has been crucified. Yet life continues. How can it be? Jesus’ death looked like the end of the story from the disciples’ perspective. It dealt a crushing blow to all that they expected from their limited, human viewpoint. They did not yet understand that Jesus would rise again, that life would overcome death, that God’s plans for good had been set in motion and were even now being fulfilled.
The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he (Jesus) was talking about.—Luke 18:34
Prayer: Lord, meet us in the broken places of our lives. Minister to us in the hard times when we do not yet understand what You are doing. Sustain us, and prepare us for the day of Your salvation that is assuredly coming. Help us trust You in the silence, we ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
