Jesus and the writers of Scripture frequently describe God’s people as sheep, sheep in need of a shepherd to watch over, care for, and protect them. Scripture also speaks of those called to be the shepherds of God’s people, shepherds who place the needs of the people above their own needs. All good leadership contains this selfless element. Men and women through the ages have devoted their lives to making a life-changing difference in the lives of others. Jesus calls us to follow Him as the good shepherd, as we lead in His name.
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.—John 10:11
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for being our good shepherd. Thank You for laying down Your life for us. Make us men and women who shepherd others, watching over, caring for, guiding, and protecting others as You do for us. In Your name we pray, amen.
