Why do we call Matthew 28:18-20 ‘the Great Commission’? Is it the all-inclusive nature of the call, the authority that flows from the risen Christ, or perhaps the personal, relational, and self-sacrificial nature of Jesus’ way of making disciples? And then there is the clear sense that He has commissioned us to continue His work. As His followers, we are to devote ourselves to making disciples at home, at work, using our influence for His purposes.
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”—Matthew 28:18-20
Prayer: Jesus, You’ve called us to follow in Your footsteps and to lead others to do the same. Let Your Great Commission shape my day today. In Your name, amen.
