Much of communication happens without a word being spoken: a glance, a gesture, an attitude, the promptness of a response, the patience (or impatience) with which we listen to another person. In stark contrast to the impatience of His disciples, Jesus’ attitude toward little children revealed how He valued them. Later, His disciples’ compassion toward others mirrored what they saw and learned in their time with Jesus. How will you value others today?
Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.—Matthew 19:13-15
Prayer: Jesus, I want to model compassion and value for all people, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion, or occupation, just like You. In Your name I pray, amen.
