Peter was driven by pride when he boasted that he would never deny Jesus, only to find himself driven by fear when he denied Jesus a few hours later. When pride or fear drive us, we find ourselves attempting to overcome circumstances in our own strength or furiously trusting in our own efforts to protect ourselves. What circumstances tempt you to place your trust in yourself instead of God? Where do you need to exchange trusting yourself for trust in God?
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.—Psalm 20:7
Prayer:Â Lord, forgive me for putting my trust in things and people (including myself), and letting pride and fear drive me instead of humility and confidence in You. Sometimes I find myself unexpectedly relying on Your gifts instead of on Your presence and power. Like Jesus, I want my life to be a demonstration of a person who humbly and confidently trusts in You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
