The prophet Ezekiel was 30 years old and in captivity in a foreign land when “he felt the hand of the LORD take hold of him” (Ezekiel 1:3 NLT). Mary was a teenage girl when she gave birth to Jesus, while Simeon and Anna were near the end of their lives when they prophesied over the infant Jesus (Luke 1-2). Regardless of their ages or circumstances, their hearts were tuned to God’s Spirit and purposes. Do you respond to God’s leadership as they did, with humility, faith, and confidence?
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” —Luke 1:38
Prayer: God, I am grateful that You call young and old, men and women, in all times and places and circumstances. Take hold of me today, Lord. Open my ears to hear Your Spirit’s voice and direction. Lead me in the ways of Jesus. Let me rise to follow You in humility and confidence. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
