Like Jonah, we gratefully receive God’s grace for ourselves. But the test of our hearts comes when God shows grace to people who have been our antagonists. Do we respond with the same joy when others receive His forgiveness and grace? God’s compassion and love knows no bounds.
Jonah prayed to the Lord, “Isn’t this what I said, Lord, when I was still at home? That is what I tried to forestall by fleeing to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity. Now, Lord, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live.”—Jonah 4:2-3
Prayer: Lord, show me where I am grumbling at the grace You show to others. Forgive me. Thank You for showing grace to me and to them. Transform my heart so that it beats in rhythm with Your heart of forgiveness and grace. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
