“…And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh when no man can work” (John 9:1-5, KJV).
Jesus made this statement in response to His disciples’ concerns. Just as many are confused about the state of the world on daily basis, solutions to world problems are not certain because it seems unending; after one is attended to, another one erupts. COVID-19 destabilized the entire world enough. Before it’s being resolved, the variances are already showing up with divers’ appendages. “Will it ever end?” is a sincere question of any inhabitant of the earth.
Jesus replied in His customary way of answering questions. If I understand well the way He answered, do not bother yourself with what you don’t know, rather face what has been committed to your hands to do it while you can.
In Acts 1:6-8, the disciples were bothered by the government of the day and engaged in arguments of who rules? They risked abandoning the assignments before them. Jesus redirected them to the purpose of their calling.
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8. KJV).
Here are a few points to bring out of these passages:
- Don’t be too concerned about the problems around you or the works to be done.
- You need to know what has been assigned to you – If you are in doubt ask questions for clarification.
- Work at it – Diligently.
- Focus on your work.
- Work with every sense of urgency.
- There is always a time attached to every work.
In Lead Like Jesus, we believe that work is a blessing from God. Work should not be dreaded, because what you dread, drains you. Work is meant to be loved. This should be well approached as we pursue our dreams with desires for great fulfillments. Our faith should be connected to our work. Work is an opportunity to worship, we are called to serve God with our lives. There is no divide between Sunday and Monday, neither between sacred and secular. Our focus should not be on how we feel but towards the mission God has for us.
God created us to work and worship. So work is worship!
“Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28, KJV).
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).
Jesus’ leadership was summarized as one that served others while being served. He put himself on the line of work, even His sacrifice of death as long as the Father is pleased.
We have been called to serve; our work should render excellent services. Ultimately, our works should glorify God.
