To develop others, we need to first assess where they are, so that we can match our leadership style to their developmental level. They don’t need to adjust to us; we adjust to them. If we teach above their head or underestimate their ability, they will lose motivation and not develop the competence and confidence they need. Who are you training today? What do they need from you in order to become more effective? How will you adjust your natural leadership style to meet their need?
Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.—Philippians 2:3-4 NLT
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for being a living example of how to live as children of God and as servant leaders. Show me what others need and how to adjust myself to where they are. I pray in Your name, amen.
