Who or what forms the standard for your life? In the book of Judges, the Israelites repeatedly fell into the trap of thinking that they could run their own lives. Only when their ways brought God’s discipline did they think of calling out to God in repentance. Thankfully, His mercy brought forgiveness and His grace brought restoration, but the pain of their disobedience and its consequences could not be erased. Where is God calling you to make Him and His word the standard for your life and leadership?

In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.—Judges 21:25

Prayer: Lord, You know the areas of my life where I am tempted to ignore Your standards and substitute my own, choosing the world’s standards instead of Yours. Thank You for this wake-up call today. Forgive me for turning from Your standard and restore me so that I can be used by You. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
