As we approach the end of October 2023, let’s do a quick heart check to see whether we are on track to our calling to serve.

In Jeremiah, we read, “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.” Jeremiah 17:9-10 NKJV

How do you keep your heart in check every day?

For me, it’s always about having the right intention and a pure motive.

David’s invitation to God to convict his thoughts and heart condition is found in Psalm 139:23-24, “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

In Proverbs 4:23-25, we are given wisdom to guard our hearts. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.”

The heart drives our decisions, our thinking, our affections, our emotions, our belief and ultimately affects our behavior. Therefore – we must guard our hearts.

I believe that guarding our hearts protects our words!

What is the current condition of your heart and what does Jesus say?

In Matthew 12:34-35 (KJV) Jesus says, “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.”

Whatever is on our hearts will be revealed through our words, actions, and behaviors.

How can you guard your heart today?

To guard your heart, you need to let go of unforgiveness, bitterness, hate, offense, past sin or anything that can affect the condition of your heart! When this happens – you can love unconditionally, live in liberation and freedom and be joyful no matter the circumstances.
