It’s been one year since Water Mission, a safe water solutions organization based in Charleston, SC, began their journey to leading like Jesus and the transformation is undeniable. Water Mission was encouraged by Steve Rubado, Program Manager at Lifeshape and Lead Like Jesus Facilitator, to have Lead Like Jesus as their foundational core.

Deb Sprayberry, Human Resources for Water Mission, has become the in-house Lead Like Jesus champion. She’s been overwhelmed by the change she’s seeing in the organization.

“We are seeing our employees really serve each other,” she says.

Water Mission started with the Encounter training experience and knew that was just the beginning. To further their involvement, they created teams to dive deep into the learning and live out Lead Like Jesus principles.

Sharing more of their implementation process, Deb says, “We were intentional about establishing Lead Like Jesus teams of 7 or 8 members. The members were assigned in mix of divisions, gender, tenure and perceived levels of engagement.”

These teams meet once a month during business hours for one hour to dive deep into various Lead Like Jesus resources like Lead Like Jesus Revisited and the accompanying Six-Week Study Guide. Even their international teams participate via video chat or FaceTime.

And they are seeing unprecedented results.

“Team members are sharing responsibility and picking up the slack when others are out traveling. They’re writing personalized notes of encouragement and one team prepared a surprise breakfast for the whole organization!”

“Lead Like Jesus is not an event; it’s part of our culture and the interactions we have as a team.”
