‘Whatever’ is one of those words we hear and say in general ways. Often, it is used in a derogatory sense to criticize another person or to dismiss what people say. Paul uses it very differently from modern culture. He uses ‘whatever’ in the sense of everything. Everything in our lives, He says, is to reflect the reality of the transforming power and presence of our Lord Jesus. Jesus, the first disciples, and the writers of the New Testament would agree with him. Jesus comes to redeem every aspect of our lives. Whatever you do today, remember that you represent Jesus to the world.
And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.—Colossians 3:17
Prayer: God, ‘whatever’ is a far-reaching word. As we live this day, let us depend wholly on You so that everything we do and every interaction reflects Jesus, in whose name we pray, amen.
